Job Description: Prep Cook
Job Summary:
Responsibilities:
- Ingredient Preparation: Wash, peel, chop, and dice vegetables, fruits, and other food items according to specified recipes and kitchen standards.
- Measuring and Mixing: Measure and mix ingredients, following recipes and portion control guidelines.
- Stock Maintenance: Keep track of ingredient inventory, restock as needed, and notify the chef or kitchen manager of low supplies.
- Food Safety: Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring proper storage and handling of ingredients.
- Station Setup: Set up workstations with necessary ingredients, tools, and equipment for the kitchen staff.
- Collaboration: Work closely with chefs, line cooks, and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth coordination in the food preparation process.
- Cleaning and Organization: Maintain cleanliness in the prep area, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and proper disposal of waste.
Qualifications:
- Basic Culinary Skills: Knowledge of basic culinary techniques and food preparation methods.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in measuring ingredients and following recipes to maintain consistent food quality.
- Time Management: Ability to work efficiently to meet prep deadlines and support timely meal service.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with kitchen staff to contribute to a positive and efficient kitchen environment.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to handle different tasks and adapt to changing kitchen priorities.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Food Safety Certification: Some employers may prefer or require certification in food safety practices.
A prep cook plays a vital role in the preparation of ingredients, contributing to the overall success of the kitchen and ensuring the delivery of high-quality meals to guests.
